Being in Honours lets us borrow FIFTY library books at a time. Best news ever.

I think we ought to read only the kind of books that wound and stab us. If the book we are reading doesn’t wake us up with a blow on the head, what are we reading it for? We need the books that affect us like a disaster, that grieve us deeply, like the death of someone we loved more than ourselves, like being banished into forests far from everyone, like a suicide. A book must be the axe for the frozen sea inside us.
Franz Kafka
I don’t really agree, but this is an interesting thought. So very Kafka.

The short-film The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore is beautiful and genius. ‘Inspired, in equal measures, by Hurricane Katrina, Buster Keaton, The Wizard of Oz, and a love for books, Morris Lessmore is a story of people who devote their lives to books and books who return the favour. Morris Lessmore is a poignant, humorous allegory about the curative powers of story. Using a variety of techniques (miniatures, computer animation, 2D animation) award winning author/illustrator William Joyce and Co-Director Brandon Oldenburg present a new narrative experience that harkens back to silent films and MGM Technicolor musicals.’ The film has been nominated for the upcoming Academy Awards.
